Under the theme of Key S&T Issues of the Clinic Effects Evaluation of Chinese Medicine, the 368th Session of the Xiangshan Science Conferences convened from March March 24 to 26 in Beijing.
Clinical evaluation is an interdisciplinary "measurement" issue in medicine. The kernel of the modern clinical evaluation system is medical-ethics-based DME (design, measurement and evaluation), EBM (evidence based medicine) and GCP (good clinical practice). Among them, the principle of RCT (randomized controlled trials) is the golden standard. Clinical efficacy is the key to the flourishing development of the traditional Chinese medicine over the past several thousand years and its gaining access to the world. However, over its long-term evolution, traditional Chinese medicine has failed to develop a standard theoretical and methodological system for efficacy evaluation that reflects its own features. As a result, it is very difficult for traditional Chinese medicine to implement the clinical trial schemes designed in strict accordance with the RCT principle. And when it is implemented, the resultant conclusion is often an embarrassing one: there is no efficacy. Therefore, establishing a rational evaluation of its clinical efficacy has become a bottleneck for the sustainable development of traditional Chinese medicine and its acceptance in the world. กก With the objective of soliciting suggestions from experts in various fields and building a consensus and a feasible research scheme on the theory, index system and methodology for the efficacy evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine, the meeting invited experts and scholars from various fields to have discussions on the following three topics concerning clinical efficacy evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine: a concept framework, methodology and an index system, and evidence and application.
